Manually backup a droplet

Manual Droplet Backup

Sometimes you want to take a manual backup of a droplet. These are not subject to pruning and will only be removed if you request it.

  1. Find your Droplet in the server list

  2. Under backup infomation press the button Backup Now If the button is missing, your droplet might be currently backing up. You can check the snapshot table to check. DigitalOcean does not allow two snapshots to happen at the same time.

  3. Wait for snapshot to finish The size and activity of the droplet will dictate how long the backup takes.

How long do DigitalOcean backups take?

We have observed that DigitalOcean backups take between 1 and 3 minutes per GB of data backed up. It depends on how many write operations your server is performing to how long it takes.
